The cup of the champagne glass is hand thrown and the strawberries are hand sculpted and arranged before being scored and being attached with slip. Slip is applied to the rim for a frosting effect before adding clay coil sprinkles. The leaves and stems of the strawberries are hand painted.
It was bisque fired to cone 04 (1945° F). After bisque firing the frosting is handpainted with clear glaze before getting a protective layer of silicon. Then wax resist is applied to the green strawberry stems before dip glazing. The silicon is removed and voila! It's Glaze firing time! While being fired to cone 6 (2232° F) we pray to the kiln gods that this piece will survive and not bend in half while reaching such an extreme temperature.
